Water can remove lubricant and encourage corrosion, especially if a bearing stays wet. Riding through a puddle does not always destroy a bearing, but leaving it damp is a problem.
Dry quickly
Remove the wheels if needed, wipe everything down and let the bearings dry completely in a ventilated place. Do not use excessive heat.
Inspect before riding
Once dry, check for roughness and rust. Clean and relubricate bearings that are still healthy; replace damaged ones.
